Twenty One Pilots 'Ride' Music Video Analysis

Ride by Twenty One Pilots is  a performance based music video, the video is very simple as it is just a performance in a forest. As it is a performance video and there is no storyline to entertain the viewers there will be parts you expect to see for example singing, instruments and the performers and there will have to be the use of interesting camera angles and shots, with the use of editing to make the video more aesthetically appealing. The song starts with a short instrumental and a close up of the branches of a pine tree. The use of this close up shows it could be the start of a narrative music video because in a performance music video you would expect a shot of the instruments or a shot of the performers, or the crowd. However as soon as the music and the drums start we see a close up of the drummer.
This is an establishing shot this is one of many used through out the video, this shot is when we hear the first lyric of the song. This establishing shot emphasises the fact that it is a performance video rather than a narrative, it also however shows both the performers all the instruments used in the song. It also shows where they are performing you might expect a performance video to be shot on stage in front
of a crowd, that makes this video unique.

A range of shots are used through out the music video to entertain the viewer as there is no storyline, for example this is a close up of the singer. The way this video is edited it matches the tempo of the song, so when the beat of the song fast you see a fast range of shots ranging form close ups to long shots, in a matter of seconds, wheres when the bet of the song slows down u see one longer shot which tends to be a mid shot show just the top half of the body.
