Planning
I think that my planning was the most successful attributes of our coursework.
I set scenes and created concepts and themes to a high and creative degree and was able to think on my toes and took every good opportunity to film and capture emotion from my point of view. This really helped fulfil the scenes to its greatest capability.
My initial brainstorm sheets were useful at helping to refine my ideas into a smaller, better quality shot list that had more meaning and narrative behind it. My shooting schedule was very random as on some days my actress was unavailable and the weather was shocking.
Because of this I took as many shots I could without needing my main actress, sort of as a back up. However in the end they came together amazingly. This years media production has been my favourite as I have had so much creative freedom in taking random, heat of the moment shots without having to compromise.
Research
My research was also successful but arguable less useful towards the creation of our final product.
Some of my best research was into the main ancillary tasks where I compared the looks and features of magazine cover posters, and conventions in digipacks. Although the digipaks and posters I researched on weren't focused on the genre I chose, it gave me a better idea of how to construct ancillary products to a high degree and to a certain theme.
They had to be high quality, catchy and relevant to the seller.
Improvements From Last Year
My film opening from last year was HUNTED. Working with James was fun and we both had great ideas, as they say, two brains are better than one. However this year after working alone I feel that I have improved a lot from last year as I have had full control in designing concepts for plots as well as filming and directing all scenes. Last year, I mostly relied on James' editing skills and I kept to planning the script and plot, along with the idea to add in the heavy breathing sound of the villain up against the window. It's clear that HUNTED honed my directorial craft and skills. These skills are in turn what I put into practise this year as I filmed every scene to the fullest potential, collecting a great range of shots in sequence.
In evaluation, I feel that I have vastly improved on the amount of editing that I did this year compared to last.
