Analysis of Student Video

Today I looked at former student, Mitchell Martin's blogger and came across his A2 music video piece for his coursework.
He used a variety of different shots within his music video which makes it consistent and makes it easy to follow the story. The use of the green camouflage effect in the performance contrasts with the normal natural nature colour of the narrative is really effective.
I also like how they have done half a performance and half a narrative video which gives the audience more of a reason to watch it as they'd feel interested.
Doing this gives them a balance between the both as appose to it just being a band and nothing else. There are good edits throughout the guitar scenes. However there are some negatives. This music video in my opinion is too simple and lacks idea, and overall looks like a last minute job. The shots are repetitive , for example the student smoking on the bench and the whole performance sequence with the guitar.        This makes the whole video some what boring and at most points within the music video the lip syncing is poor. As well as genre conventions, the video used typical characteristics of music videos. The video is mostly a compilation of the guitarists moments. This type of video is similar to what the Goo Goo Dolls and their genre would aim videos to look like.

Overall the convention's used such as lip syncing was particularly effective when the artist is sat down yet not looking at the camera and the camera then zooms out to a medium shot of the artist still. I like how Mitchell used multiple angles and the actors concentration throughout the narrative. Both of these are usual features of music videos - independent of genre.
